ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has claimed to have recovered movable and immovable assets, as well as cash, worth Rs2.45 trillion during the second quarter of 2026, compared to Rs456.3 billion recovered during the corresponding period in 2025.

According to NAB, the bureau made direct and indirect recoveries worth Rs2,452 billion during the second quarter of 2026. In the first quarter, it recovered assets worth Rs2,962 billion, taking the total recoveries for the first half of 2026 to Rs5,414 billion.

The bureau said it recovered 1,078,283 acres of state land in Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Among its regional offices, NAB Sukkur made the highest recovery in collaboration with the Sindh Board of Revenue and the Secretary, Forests. It recovered 853,678 acres of land belonging to the National Highway Authority (NHA), the Forest Department and the Irrigation Department, valued at Rs1.01 trillion. According to NAB, the recovered land has been mutated in favour of the Sindh government.

NAB Balochistan recovered 209,544 acres of state land worth Rs604.64 billion. The recovered land includes forest areas, prime natural reserves such as Hingol National Park along the Coastal Highway, and land belonging to the Gwadar Industrial Estate Development Authority (GIEDA).

Meanwhile, NAB Karachi recovered 11,422 acres of illegally allotted state land and land leased under dubious arrangements to housing societies and individuals, valued at Rs467.11 billion.

NAB Lahore recovered 1,909 acres of land belonging to the Punjab Cooperatives Board for Liquidation (PCBL), along with other state land, worth Rs288.29 billion.

The bureau also recovered 810 acres of land in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, valued at Rs66.63 billion.

In cases related to housing and financial fraud, over 24,365 affected individuals were compensated with the return of their looted money/ assets, amounting to Rs.42.303 billion.

The anti-graft authority has transitioned to the E-Office system through paper-free and automated processes. The bureau is now in its revolutionary transformation phase of switching to an AI-based E-Investigation regime, which will harness machine learning to detect patterns, prioritize high-risk cases, and expedite the processes.

The AI-based investigation mechanism will leave no room for human discretion, enabling an AI-based analysis/ investigation module of oral/ documentary evidence leading to evidence-based, tamper-proof testimony.

Further, to cater to the training needs of the workforce, the Pakistan Anti-Corruption Academy (PACA) has been fully operationalised as a centre of excellence.
