Vibrant industry backbone of economy: Khalid Maqbool
KARACHI: Former governor of Punjab, Khalid Maqbool, has said that the strength of any country’s economy depends on a vibrant industrial and business sector, adding that Pakistan’s business community has consistently played a commendable role in promoting industry, trade, exports, and employment despite challenging economic conditions.
Addressing members of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Khalid Maqbool said that strengthening the national economy required greater trust, cooperation, and continuous engagement between the government, the private sector, and state institutions.
He stressed the need for focusing on technological advancement, industrial innovation, workforce development, export expansion, and creating employment opportunities for young people.
“A strong economy is the foundation of national security and sustainable development,” he said, adding that he would continue to support efforts aimed at conveying the genuine concerns of the industrialists to the relevant government forums and facilitating a more conducive business environment.
KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput said that promoting industry and trade on a priority basis was essential for Pakistan’s long-term economic growth.
He noted that timely resolution of industrial issues, restoration of investor confidence, expansion of exports, and continuity of business-friendly policies were critical to building a stable and resilient economy.
Rajput said KATI remained committed to strengthening coordination between the government, public institutions, and the private sector to improve the country’s business climate.
He said that the association would continue to play an active role in representing industrialists and contributing to national economic development.
Addressing the gathering, Major General Imtiaz Hussain Shirazi (Retd) praised KATI’s contribution to Pakistan’s industrial sector, describing it as one of the country’s leading trade associations.
He said the association had consistently worked to promote industry, exports, investment, employment generation, and economic growth.
The participants also held detailed discussions on matters of mutual interest, including industrial development, investment opportunities, enhancing export competitiveness, and addressing the key challenges facing Pakistan’s economy.
The event was also attended by KATI Senior Vice President Zahid Hameed, former president Junaid Naqi, Israr Ahmed and a delegation of businessmen and industrialists from Punjab.
