Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Sunday said an unusually strong gas smell reported in some areas near Abul Hasan Isphahani Road was due to testing of its odorization plants during commissioning of a new gas pipeline.
The company said the testing process involved temporarily adding a relatively higher quantity of odorant — the substance used to give natural gas its distinctive smell — resulting in stronger-than-usual odour in some locations.
SSGC clarified that all system pressures were normal and no gas leakage had been reported.
The company urged consumers not to panic, saying the smell was solely due to the temporary increase in odorant levels during testing and advised them to continue their routine activities.
