ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that he received a response from the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) to his proposal for establishing a ‘Truth and Reconciliation Commission’, describing it as a positive step toward resolving the ongoing crisis in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
In a post on social media platform X on Saturday night, Bilawal said the JKJAAC had responded to his earlier letter proposing the formation of the commission and had also submitted its own recommendations for consideration.
He stressed that the loss of every precious life is a national tragedy, adding that his immediate priority is to help end the current crisis, provide urgent relief to the people, and restore normalcy in Azad Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible.
Bilawal welcomed the committee’s willingness to consider the proposed Truth and Reconciliation Commission as a possible institutional mechanism for moving forward. He said that the proposal has also been endorsed by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and said he would carefully review the committee’s recommendations.
The PPP chairman said that he would now consult the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, who would seek initial feedback from the federal government and other relevant stakeholders to determine whether sufficient common ground exists to advance a mutually agreed proposal.
