LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab claimed on Friday that the water flow in most rivers of Punjab is normal.
Water is flowing at normal level in Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej rivers, while there is low level flood at Kalabagh and Chashma in Indus River.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, the water flow in the river wells of Dera Ghazi Khan is also normal. The water flow in the Indus River at Kalabagh has been recorded at 263,000 cusecs while at Chashma it has been recorded at 294,000 cusecs.
According to the PDMA, there is moderate flooding in Nala Palkho at Wazirabad where the water flow is 3,600 cusecs, while low-level flooding has been recorded in Nala Basantar in Narowal district.
According to PDMA Punjab, the fourth series of monsoon rains is predicted to continue till August 5. PDMA DG Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa has said that due to expected rains in the upper catchment areas, there is a possibility of an increase in the water flow in the eastern rivers and their adjacent rivers.
According to the PDMA Punjab, there is a risk of urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan, while there is a risk of landslides in Murree, Galiyat and other hilly areas.
The DG PDMA appealed to the citizens in the riverbeds to immediately move to safer places. He said the Punjab government has set up flood relief camps in the flood-affected areas where the victims are being provided with shelter, food, clean drinking water, medical facilities and other basic necessities.
On the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, the DG PDMA visited the flood-affected areas of Sheikhupura and reviewed the relief activities.
Meanwhile, the DG PDMA visited the flood-affected areas of Sheikhupura district. He inspected the flood relief camps established in Pathan Colony and Muridke of Ferozewala and reviewed the facilities provided to the victims in detail.
The DG took a briefing from the officers concerned on the rescue and relief activities. He was informed that 58 villages were submerged due to the flooding in Nala Bheed and Nala Deek, while a total of 83 villages and 43,188 acres of land were affected. As many as 1,215 houses were also damaged as a result of the flood.
Saif Jappa said relief activities are underway in the affected areas. Teams of ‘Clinic on Wheels’, ‘Suthra Punjab Programme’ and ‘Saaf Pani Authority’ are present in the field and ensuring the provision of medical facilities, sanitation and clean drinking water to the affected people. He said 13 flood relief camps and seven medical camps have been established for the convenience of the affected people, while 738 people and 46 livestock have been safely shifted to safe places. Some 11,300 cooked food boxes and 4,085 ration bags have been distributed among the affected families. Similarly, 215 manats of green fodder, 20 manats of todi and 415 bags of vanda have also been provided under livestock support.
The Director General PDMA said uninterrupted supply of food, clean drinking water, medicines and other basic facilities are being ensured to the victims in the flood relief camps.
