Implementing production monitoring: Edible oil, ghee units come under renewed FBR focus

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has started data collection of production/stocks, quantity of refined/bulk oil sold and all other information of edible oil and ghee manufacturers across the country for the implementation of electronic production monitoring in the manufacturing units.

According to the instructions issued to all Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue, the FBR has sought complete and updated information regarding edible oil and ghee manufacturers.

Refer to the ongoing exercise for the implementation of electronic production monitoring in the edible oil & ghee sector and to state that a comprehensive, accurate and updated database of all edible oil & ghee manufacturing facilities operating across the country is required for effective planning and implementation of the initiative, FBR directed.

All field formations have been directed to undertake a comprehensive stock-taking exercise and furnish information in respect of all edible oil & ghee manufacturers/mills falling within their respective jurisdictions. The exercise shall cover all manufacturing facilities, including those that are operational, temporarily closed or non-operational, as applicable.

The requisite information shall be provided strictly in the format prescribed.

The information should be complete in all respects and based on the latest available records and verification by the concerned field formation. Where a taxpayer operates more than one factory or manufacturing premises, each premises shall be reported separately in a separate row.

The concerned Chief Commissioners-IR are requested to ensure that the information furnished is complete, accurate and exhaustive, and that no Edible Oil & Ghee manufacturing or packaging facility falling within their jurisdiction is omitted.

Particular attention may be given to correctly identifying the nature of each facility, its operational status, products manufactured or packed, packaging types and exact SKU-stock keeping unit- sizes (specific pack size or unit size), number of filling/packaging lines, installed production capacity, and whether refined oil is sold or dispatched in bulk, FBR added.
