Approx 350 chambers, trade associations: DGTO set to conduct elections across country in phases
ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Trade Organizations (DGTO), an arm of the Ministry of Commerce, is set to conduct elections of approximately 300 to 350 chambers and trade associations across the country in phases.
According to official sources, the elections will be held in accordance with the Trade Organizations Act and relevant rules to ensure transparency and continuity in the functioning of trade bodies. The phased schedule aims at facilitating smooth conduct of the electoral process and effective oversight by the DGTO.
According to the official website of the DGTO, there are currently 169 trade associations, 73 chambers of commerce and industry, 18 small chambers, 32 women’s chambers, 11 town associations, seven joint chambers of commerce and industry, and two small trade associations.
The elections are a key component of the regulatory framework governing trade organizations, which play a vital role in representing the interests of the business community and supporting economic activity.
