Pakistan welcomes Kuwait's ratification of 2023 defence cooperation agreement

Pakistan on Wednesday welcomed Kuwait’s ratification of the Pakistan-Kuwait Defence Cooperation Agreement signed in 2023, describing it as a significant milestone that would further strengthen the longstanding defence partnership between the two countries.

In a statement issued in response to media queries, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the ratification reflected the shared resolve of Pakistan and Kuwait to deepen bilateral defence cooperation and elevate their security partnership.

He noted that the defence relationship between the two “brotherly countries” dates back to the early 1980s and said the agreement would provide a comprehensive institutional framework for expanding collaboration.

According to the spokesperson, the agreement covers military training and education, joint exercises, exchanges of expertise, and other mutually agreed areas of cooperation.

He said the framework would strengthen institutional linkages between the armed forces of both countries and further consolidate their longstanding defence ties.

Pakistan and Kuwait will continue to work closely to implement the agreement in line with its provisions, Andrabi said, adding that enhanced defence collaboration would reinforce the enduring partnership based on mutual trust, shared interests and close institutional cooperation.

He said the agreement would also contribute to regional peace, security and stability.

Pakistan and Kuwait signed the Defence Cooperation Agreement in June 2023 during high-level engagements aimed at expanding bilateral security cooperation.
