Centre will not allow any group to disturb peace in AJK: Tarar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar on Monday said the Pakistan government stood firmly with the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government and would not allow any group to disrupt peace, alleging that a “violent mob” attempted to undermine law and order following the recently concluded elections.

Speaking about the security situation in Rawalakot, Tarar said the AJK elections were held in a peaceful, transparent and democratic manner, with mainstream political parties actively participating in the campaign through public rallies and corner meetings.

He said around 600,000 votes were cast in Rawalakot, reflecting strong public participation in the electoral process.

The minister alleged that the Joint Action Committee was unable to accept the peaceful conduct of the elections and accused a violent group of attempting to destabilise the region. He said authorities had recovered prohibited weapons from members of the group and maintained that the unrest was never a peaceful protest.

Tarar further alleged that the group was pursuing an external agenda and receiving Indian funding, claiming its actions were aimed at damaging peace and weakening the Kashmir cause.

He said the people of Kashmir had rejected violence by participating in the electoral process and warned that no one would be allowed to endanger public life, property or law and order.

Reaffirming Islamabad’s support for the AJK government, Tarar said the government would not allow anyone to disrupt peace through violence and asserted that attempts to harm the Kashmir cause would fail.
