Group Captain murder case: Court extends physical remand of accused

ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday extended the physical remand of a suspect arrested in the murder case of Asim Tariq, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Group Captain.

The ATC Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain announced his verdict, granting a seven-day physical remand of the accused Saad Abbasi.

Earlier, police produced the suspect Saad Abbasi in the court after the expiry of the previous seven-day remand.

Prosecutor Raja Naveed Hussain Kiani requested the court to extend the suspect’s physical remand for 15 days.

He told the court that police have recovered the pistol allegedly used by the accused in the murder. The accused had concealed the weapon after the killing, he said, adding that the investigator has yet to recover the mobile phone of the accused.

The prosecutor told the court that police require an extension in the physical remand to complete the investigations. He requested the court to extend the physical remand of the accused for 15 days.

The court turned down the police request for a 15-day extension and granted a seven-day extension.

The court directed police to produce the accused before it on August 3.

PAF group captain was murdered on July 5in the jurisdiction of Margalla Police Station near Shaheen Chowk.

Following the incident police had registered the first information report (FIR) on the complaint of Wing Commander Imran Khurram Nawaz, Officer Commanding Air Headquarters, under Section 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
