KARACHI: The Sindh Employees’ Social Security Institution (SESSI) has intensified HIV screening across all its hospitals as authorities investigate newly detected cases and seek to determine whether any infections are linked to medical treatment.
Commissioner Hadi Bakhsh Kalhoro, in a statement on Saturday, said HIV screening is now being conducted at all SESSI hospitals.
According to the Commissioner, screening conducted in and around Landhi Hospital has identified 10 HIV-positive cases among 2,000 people tested, while 120 children and adults have tested positive out of 10,000 individuals screened in and around SESSI’s Valika Hospital.
Kalhoro said the province-wide screening campaign is also being carried out at government hospitals to identify infections at an early stage and strengthen disease surveillance.
He said SESSI is compiling detailed records of every HIV-positive child and their family members to ensure they receive appropriate medical treatment, follow-up care and welfare support.
The Commissioner said authorities are also reviewing records of all outpatients and admitted patients treated at SESSI hospitals since January 2025. If any patient treated during that period is found to be HIV-positive, an inquiry will be conducted to determine the possible source of infection and whether any negligence or malpractice was involved.
He said all SESSI hospitals and dispensaries continue to provide routine healthcare services while strengthening infection-control measures and expanding HIV screening as part of efforts to safeguard public health.
