ISLAMABAD: The capital city witnessed an increase in criminal activities during the past week, with more than 50 incidents, including murders, armed robberies, carjackings, and street crimes, reported from various parts of the city.
Data collected by Business Recorder on Saturday revealed that the 50 reported incidents included three murders, 31 vehicle thefts, eight cases of street crime involving mobile phone and cash snatching, and seven robberies.
During this period, several areas emerged as crime hotspots, including the jurisdictions of Ramna, Industrial Area, Aabpara, Margalla, Shalimar and Shams Colony police stations. The 31 vehicles stolen during the week included two cars and 29 motorcycles.
During the week, a 20-year-old man, Farooq Umar, was allegedly shot dead following a dispute over a financial transaction in the jurisdiction of Noon Police Station in Dhok Malyar. Police said the main suspect has been arrested.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of a security guard in Media Town who had been shot dead by unidentified assailants within the limits of Lohi Bher Police Station.
During the same period, the Industrial Area Police Station registered two robbery cases and two vehicle theft cases. Ramna Police Station registered four vehicle theft cases, while Shams Colony Police Station registered one murder case, two vehicle theft cases, and one robbery case. The Margalla Police Station registered one robbery, one street crime, and one vehicle theft case.
During the week, Islamabad Police claimed to have arrested 32 suspected criminals in various raids. According to a police spokesperson, seven suspects involved in different criminal activities were arrested, and police recovered crystal meth (commonly known as ice), seven pistols with ammunition, and two knives from their possession.
Additionally, during a special campaign launched to arrest proclaimed offenders and absconders, police teams apprehended 25 more suspects.
