NHA likely to complete 21 uplift projects during FY2027

ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) is likely to complete 21 of its 71 ongoing development projects during the financial year 2026-27. However, due to funding constraints, the cumulative throw-forward liability of its ongoing schemes is expected to exceed PKR 3 trillion.

According to NHA documents, the authority has been allocated PKR 224.51 billion under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2026-27. Of this, PKR 165.26 billion will be provided by the federal government, while PKR 59.25 billion will come through foreign assistance.

Balochistan has received the largest share of PSDP funding, with 17 ongoing projects allocated PKR 118.19 billion. The province’s throw-forward liability stands at PKR 569.64 billion.

For Sindh, PKR 49.30 billion has been allocated for nine ongoing projects, including PKR 8.05 billion from the federal government and PKR 41.25 billion through foreign assistance. The province’s throw-forward liability is estimated at PKR 472.47 billion.

A total of PKR 27.50 billion has been earmarked for 21 ongoing projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Of this, PKR 19.45 billion will be provided by the federal government, while PKR 8.05 billion will be financed through foreign assistance. The province’s throw-forward liability is estimated at PKR 933.67 billion.

For Punjab, 16 ongoing projects have been allocated PKR 21.67 billion, comprising PKR 17.17 billion in local funding and PKR 4.50 billion in foreign assistance.

Meanwhile, PKR 8 billion has been allocated for projects in Gilgit-Baltistan and three other schemes, including PKR 3 billion from the federal government and PKR 5 billion through foreign assistance.

According to the documents, the total estimated cost of 66 approved PC-1 projects stands at PKR 3.86 trillion.
