KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a fresh monsoon spell bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms across multiple regions through Monday, with heavy falls expected in southern and central parts of the country. A low-pressure area currently located over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas is driving monsoon currents into southern and central Pakistan, officials said on Friday.
Sindh: Rain with thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls are expected in Tharparkar, Umer Kot, Mirpur Khas, Badin, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Matyari, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Khairpur, Nosheroferoz and Thatta districts till Monday, with occasional gaps.
Karachi is likely to experience mostly cloudy weather with chances of rain on Saturday and Sunday.
Kashmir: Isolated rain, windstorms and thundershowers are expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur till Tuesday.
Punjab and Islamabad: Heavy rain with windstorms and thundershowers are expected in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Sahiwal, Pak Pattan, Vehari, Khanewal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan and Khan Pur through Monday.
Partly cloudy to cloudy weather with rain and thundershowers is forecast for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib and Chiniot until Sunday.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Rain and thundershowers are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Waziristan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan and Hangu till Monday.
Gilgit-Baltistan: Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with rain and thundershowers are predicted in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar till Sunday.
Balochistan: Rain and thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in north and northeastern parts including Zhob, Sherani, Loralai, Kohlu, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, Barkhan, Dera Bugti, Awaran and Khuzdar through Monday.
The Met office has warned that heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Gujranwala and Lahore on Friday and Saturday. Flooding is also expected in Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Mithi, Mir Pur Khas, Umer Kot, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sialkot, Multan and Faisalabad till Sunday.
Officials advised that windstorms and lightning could damage weak structures including solar panels, electric poles and billboards during the forecast period.
Tourists and travellers have been urged to remain cautious. Farmers are advised to manage their crop activities and livestock care according to weather conditions.
All relevant authorities have been directed to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to prevent any untoward situations during the forecast period.
