Pakistan condemns Houthi threats against Saudi Arabia, Red Sea shipping

Pakistan on Wednesday condemned the continued threats by Yemen’s Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, warning that such actions endanger regional stability and global trade.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said the threats undermine freedom of navigation, jeopardize the uninterrupted flow of international commerce and violate the principles of international law.

The ministry also expressed concern over reports that vessels engaged in legitimate commercial trade with Saudi Arabia had been threatened.

It said Pakistan reserves the right, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law, to take all necessary measures, including the lawful use of force in self-defence, to safeguard its maritime assets and national interests.

The Foreign Office further voiced concern over attempts to draw Saudi Arabia into the wider Middle East conflict and reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty, territorial integrity and prosperity.

Reiterating its commitment to dialogue, diplomacy and regional de-escalation, Pakistan urged all parties to uphold international law and ensure the safety and security of international maritime navigation.
