KARACHI: Repatriation of profit and dividends by foreign investors rose slightly 4 percent in the fiscal year 2025-26, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Monday.
According to the central bank, the foreign companies operating in the country repatriated USD 2.305 billion in profits and dividends during 2025-26 compared to USD 2.219 billion in the preceding fiscal year, showing an increase of USD 86 million against both Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI).
The detailed analysis revealed that returns on FDI accounted for the bulk of the outflows, as multinational companies transferred huge profits or dividends generated from sectors. However, profit repatriation against the portfolio investment, indicating witnessed downward trend despite better performance of the equity market.
Some 95.5 percent amount was sent abroad as returns on FDI, while remaining 4.5 percent from the FPI.
With an increase of 5 percent or USD 97 million, foreign investors repatriated USD 2.202 billion on account of return on FDI during the fiscal year 2025-26 as against USD 2.105 billion in the preceding fiscal year. During the period under review, profit repatriation on FPI stood at USD 104 million, slightly lower than USD 115 million recorded in the preceding fiscal year.
On a monthly basis, around USD 151 million was repatriated in June 2026, including USD 141 million on account of FDI and USD 11 million as returns on portfolio investment.
