High court judges: JCP recommends confirmation, appointment
ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has recommended the confirmation and appointment of additional judges in the Sindh High Court, Islamabad High Court, and Peshawar High Court, and also extended the term of the SHC constitutional benches.
The Commission, in its respective compositions for the SHC, IHC, and the PHC, met under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, at the conference room of the Supreme Court building, Islamabad, on Monday.
The Commission, by a majority of its total membership, recommended the extension of the term of Justice Khalid Hussain Shahani as additional judge of the Sindh High Court for six months, after due consideration of the relevant Data Forms, Antecedents, and evaluation of material placed before it. Justice Syed Fiazul Hassan Shah, an additional judge of the Sindh High Court, was not confirmed.
The Commission also, by a majority of its total membership, recommended the extension of the term of the Constitutional Benches of the Sindh High Court for a period of three months.
Similarly, the JCP, by a majority of its total membership, recommended the appointment of Muhammad Humayon Khan, Advocate; Suresh Kumar, District & Sessions Judge, and Dr. Shah Nawaz Memon Advocate, as additional judges of the Sindh High Court. Two vacancies could not be filled due to a lack of the required majority of total membership.
Regarding the additional judges of the Islamabad High Court, the Commission, by a majority of its total membership, recommended the appointment of Ayyaz Shaukat, Advocate; Shahrukh Arjumand, District & Sessions Judge; and Umair Majeed Malik, Advocate, as the IHC additional judges.
The Commission, by a majority of its total membership, recommended the confirmation of the Additional Judges – Justice Farah Jamshed; Justice Inaam Ullah Khan; Justice Sabit Ullah Khan and Justice Aurangzeb – as the judges of the Peshawar High Court, after due consideration of the relevant Data Forms, Antecedents, and evaluation of material placed before it.
