KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon on Saturday directed authorities to immediately identify and allocate government land for the construction of bus depots to support the province’s expanding public transport network, including the induction of 500 electric buses and 50 double-decker buses.

The directive came during a high-level meeting chaired by the Senior Minister to review land requirements for ongoing and upcoming mass transit projects.

The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Director General Karachi Development Authority Asif Jan Siddiqui, Deputy Commissioners of various districts of the city and senior officials of the relevant departments. DCs Malir, Korangi, Central and West districts also participated.

Officials briefed the meeting on land requirements for bus parking, operations and depot facilities, while available government land, proposed sites and future infrastructure needs were reviewed to identify suitable locations.

Sharjeel Inam Memon - having portfolios of Information, Transport and Mass Transit- said the induction of 50 double-decker buses and 500 electric buses (EVs) would significantly strengthen Sindh’s public transport system and improve commuting facilities for thousands of passengers.

He directed all DCs to immediately identify vacant government land in their respective districts to facilitate the timely construction of modern bus depots.
