ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s information technology (IT) and telecom exports remittances reached to a record USD4.6 billion in fiscal year 2025-26, but fell short of the government’s ambitious USD5 billion target.

According to official figures released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) , IT and telecom export remittances increased from USD3.814 billion in fiscal year 2024-25 to USD4.6 billion in fiscal year 2025-26, registering an annual growth of around 20.6 percent.

The sector ended the fiscal year on a strong note, with June 2026 exports rising to USD416 million, compared with USD373 million in May 2026 and USD339 million in June 2025, reflecting both month-on-month and year-on-year growth.

Earlier, data released by the SBP showed IT and telecom export remittances had dipped to USD 373 million in May from the record USD 423 million in April, an 11.8 percent monthly decline after consecutive months of exceptional performance.

During the first eleven months (July-May) of 2025-26, cumulative IT and telecom export remittances had reached USD 4.184 billion, compared with USD 3.475 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year, posting growth of over 20 percent.

The sector had witnessed some volatility during the fiscal year, with exports easing from USD 437 million in December 2025 to USD 374 million in January and USD 365 million in February, before rebounding to USD 413 million in March and hitting a record USD 423 million in April.

Despite missing the USD 5 billion target, the IT sector remained one of Pakistan’s best-performing export industries, supported by rising global demand for software and IT-enabled services, growing freelance earnings, and the expanding international presence of Pakistani technology companies.
