KARACHI: Bank Alfalah has partnered with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Indus Earth Trust (IET) to launch an urban forestry project at Ibn-e-Qasim Park, Clifton, with an initial contribution of Rs3 million.
An MoU was signed by Atif Bajwa, President & CEO, Bank Alfalah, and Aijaz Ali Abro, CEO, IET.
The initiative will begin with the development of a plantation area within the park to reduce urban heat, improve air quality, support biodiversity and enhance Karachi’s climate resilience.
Commenting on this development, AtifBajwa said that parks were the lungs of every city, and Karachi needed more of them. “Together with our partners, we are proud to support initiatives that expand the city’s green spaces,” he added.
Afia Salam, President, IET, said the project demonstrated how public-private collaboration could support ecological restoration through native species and community participation.
At the event, Bank Alfalah also unveiled its fourth Annual Sustainability Report, highlighting Rs24 billion in green financing and Rs75.2 billion in SME financing.
