ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar on Sunday held a meeting with Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Dr. Zahra Behrouz Azar, on the sidelines of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women.

During the meeting, the two sides held detailed discussions on women’s rights, cooperation through the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Dr. Zahra Behrouz Azar appreciated Pakistan’s positive diplomatic role, mediation and facilitation efforts for achieving a ceasefire, and expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s efforts.

Both leaders agreed to further strengthen the historic, religious, cultural and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran and to undertake joint initiatives for the promotion of women’s rights and empowerment.

The meeting also emphasized the need to effectively highlight the issues faced by women in Palestine and Afghanistan through the OIC platform and to develop a joint strategy for their welfare and support.

Dr. Zahra Behrouz Azar welcomed Pakistan’s assumption of the chairmanship of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women for the next two years and expressed confidence in Pakistan’s effective role in advancing women’s empowerment.
