PM to visit Iran, Turkiye in July

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to embark on a visit to Iran and Türkiye early next month, diplomatic sources revealed on Saturday.

On the first leg, the premier will arrive in Tehran on the night of July 2 to attend the funeral ceremony of late Ali Khamenei scheduled for July 3.

The Prime Minister is likely to hold an important meeting with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian to convey Pakistan’s condolences over Khamenei passing and reaffirm resolve to improve bilateral ties.

On the same day on July 3, Prime Minister Sharif will depart for Ankara. His engagements in Türkiye on July 4 include a working session with the Turkish President Reccep Tayyep Erodogan and participation in the Pakistan–Türkiye Business Forum, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between the two brotherly nations.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar spoke to Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi Friday night.

DPM/FM reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to play its constructive role for achieving the goal of lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond.

FM Araghchi expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s continued support in advancing the peace process. He also thanked Pakistan for facilitating the safe and smooth repatraitaion of Iranian crew members and fishermen to their homeland. They agreed to remain in close contact.
