LAHORE: Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram, will be observed across the country on Friday (today) with due solemnity, to pay homage to the supreme sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his devoted companions in Karbala.

Mourning processions will be taken out in all cities and towns amid stringent security measures.

Ulema and Zakireen will highlight the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and various aspects of Karbla tragedy.

Meanwhile, mourning processions were taken out on Thursday, to mark 9th of Muharram and to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala.

Taazia and Zuljanah processions were taken out to commemorate martyrs of Karbala and highlight their unprecedented sacrifice for Islam.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward incident during the Muharram-ul-Haram.

The 10th day of the month of Muharram in Hijri calendar, is regarded as the day of Karbala, a “mourning and heartbreaking event,” which has special religious significance for the Muslim community across the globe. Muslims across the world recall the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA) along with his family members and 72 followers, who embraced martyrdom in 680AD in the desert of Karbala on the banks of the Euphrates River in Iraq while fighting for truth and justice against the Yazid forces.

Religious leaders termed the Ashura as a very mournful and significant day.

They said, Islam is a religion of truth, justice and peace. While upholding this great ideal of Islam, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), his family members and close companions were martyred in the desert of Karbala on 10th Muharram.
