LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority on Thursday carried out an operation in Khokhar Town, Lahore, against a bakery involved in the use of broken and spoiled eggs for the preparation of food products.
During the operation, a bakery was sealed, an FIR was lodged and a suspect was arrested for food fraud activities.
Food safety teams discarded 6,000 broken eggs found at the premises. During the inspection, bakery products were being prepared using foul-smelling broken eggs.
Laboratory examination and on-site assessment revealed the presence of bacteria and fungal contamination in the
eggs, making them unfit for human consumption. Some 19 food points were inspected and fines worth Rs281,000 were imposed on 18 food businesses for various food safety violations.
