HYDERABAD: Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has said that, like every year, Muharram is being observed this year as well with devotion and respect.
He said the Sindh Government has made all necessary arrangements for Muharram, while special arrangements have been made along procession routes across the province, including Hyderabad. He said that security has been enhanced throughout Sindh during Muharram, and all arrangements have been finalized after consultations with religious scholars.
Talking to the media at Rawal House, Rahuki, Tando Jam, he said that just as the Shia community organizes religious observances during Muharram in Sindh, the Sunni community also does so in the same spirit. He said that there is a need to learn lessons from the incident of Karbala and tributes are paid to Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions without any discrimination.
He said that effective arrangements have been made by Sindh Government throughout the province. Alhamdulillah, the law and order situation is better, and further measures have also been taken by government to ensure peace and security.
Sharjeel Memon said that there has been no cut in the NFC Award; however, the provinces have adjusted their shares according to priorities. He said that all provinces are receiving a reduced share, which may affect development projects and result in a smaller development budget. He added that the Sindh Government remains committed to working for the welfare of the people.
He said that opposition members did not even read the budget. Instead of reviewing the budget, they created a ruckus and walked out of the House. He said that the federal government has committed significant injustices. Despite the fact that the entire country’s imports and exports pass through Karachi, there is still no motorway connecting Karachi and Sukkur. He said that the province contributing the highest tax revenue has been neglected. He expressed hope that the promises made to Sindh would be fulfilled.
He said that Sindh Government is laying a network of development projects across different cities. So far, more than 3,000 kilometres of roads have been constructed, while additional pink scooters will also be distributed. He said that 500 electric (EV) buses are being introduced, and double-decker buses are also expected to arrive soon.
He said that efforts are being made by HESCO and K-Electric to improve the electricity system. He remarked that the condition of the road from Hyderabad to Sukkur is so poor that one feels as though they would need to travel in an ambulance.
He said that Aleem Khan is good person and that his statements suggest he is determined to take practical steps.
Responding to a journalist’s question regarding the release of the PTI founder, he said, “I pray for his release.”
