ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter jets escorted the aircraft carrying Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian as it entered Pakistani airspace on Tuesday, in a ceremonial welcome underscoring the importance Islamabad attaches to the visiting head of state.
According to official sources, a special PAF formation comprising six fighter aircraft, including JF-17 Thunder and F-16 jets, received the Iranian President’s aircraft upon its entry into Pakistan’s airspace.
The formation leader conveyed the good wishes of the Government and people of Pakistan to the Iranian President during the aerial escort.
Officials described the ceremonial reception as a reflection of the longstanding brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran and a reaffirmation of both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, including defence cooperation.
The escort by the JF-17 Thunder and F-16 aircraft also showcased the Pakistan Air Force’s operational capabilities while continuing Pakistan’s longstanding tradition of extending special honours to visiting heads of state.
President Pezeshkian’s visit is expected to include high-level engagements aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation and exchanging views on regional peace, security and issues of mutual interest.
