ISLAMABAD: A massive fire broke out at the Sunday Bazaar in Sector H-9 on Tuesday evening, reducing more than 100 shops to ashes and causing losses worth millions of rupees.

Thick black smoke billowed from the market and was visible from several parts of the federal capital as the blaze rapidly spread through the densely packed stalls.

According to preliminary reports, over 100 shops were destroyed in the fire. Firefighters from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) rushed to the scene and launched an operation to contain the blaze.

Due to the scale of the fire, additional rescue and fire brigade vehicles were called from Rawalpindi to assist in firefighting efforts.

A senior official said the exact cause of the fire had not yet been determined. He added that no casualties had been reported so far, although goods worth millions of rupees had been destroyed.

Police cordoned off the area surrounding the market, while officials began collecting evidence to ascertain the cause of the incident.

“A full investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the fire,” the official said.

Rescue teams continued their efforts late into the evening to bring the fire completely under control and prevent it from spreading to other sections of the market.
