PESHAWAR: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Provincial Energy Development Organization (PEDO) Engineer Anwar-ul-Haq has said that construction work on several hydropower projects have entered the final stages of completion.

The completion of these projects is expected to generate an additional receipt of more than 10 billion rupees to the province.

He was addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected cabinet of the PEDO Officers Association (Registered), consisting of officers of the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO), a subsidiary of Energy and Power Department KP. Provincial Minister for Energy and Power, Nazir Ahmad Abbasi was chief guest on the occasion. He said that PEDO is a profitable institution of the province that generating annual income of more than 6 billion rupees.

At this juncture, the newly elected president Engineer Muqeem uddin presented a charter of demand, which included health insurance facility, provision of residential colony on Wapda lines for the employees and solar system on easy installments, implementation of time scale promotion for departmental promotion of employees, transport facilities on equal basis for all senior and junior officers of PEDO, a policy of running O&M of PEDO’s completed power plants at the government level, employee allowances, etc. The association has included these in the upcoming agenda.

Speaking at the occasion, KP Minister Energy and Power Nazir Ahmad Abbasi has said that the energy sector has a fundamental position in the country’s economy because the development and prosperity of all sectors including agriculture, industry, transport, irrigation, and municipalities are linked to this important sector. Moreover, natural water resources of cheap hydropower generation found in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with oil and gas reserves, are valuable assets of this province, which can be used to stabilize the livelihood of the workers and bring about a revolution.

He said that PEDO is an important government institution producing cheap hydropower in the province, which is providing billions of rupees to the province annually. PEDO will be developed and made the highest-income institution in the province. In concluding remarks, the Provincial Minister Nazir Abbasi agreed with the legitimate demands of PEDO’s employees and emphasized that all employees will carry out their duties with merit and transparency for the best interest and development of the organization.

Earlier, the Provincial Minister administered oath to the newly POA elected cabinet namely Chairman Syed Asif Raza, President Engineer Muqeem uddin, General Secretary Muhammad Abrar, Senior Vice President Salman Afridi, Vice President Waqas Gandapur, Joint Secretary Sefat ullah, Finance Secretary Imran Khan, Information Secretary Ashfaq Khan and Office Secretary Shahzad Khan.
