LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in her message on the commencement of the new Hijri year, expressed the hope that the new Islamic year would usher in peace, security and tranquillity.

She prayed that the new Hijri year would serve as a message of unity and solidarity for the Muslim Ummah and that 1448 AH would prove to be a year of peace and progress for Pakistan.

She also expressed the hope that the new year would bring prosperity, happiness and stability across the country.

The chief minister said she prayed that the new Hijri year would be a source of mercy and blessings for Pakistan, its people and the entire Muslim world.

Maryam Nawaz said that Muharram-ul-Haram reminds Muslims of the great sacrifice of the Holy Prophet’s grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). She added that the philosophy of sacrifice demonstrated by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) continues to inspire the oppressed in every era and challenges oppression and injustice.

The chief minister appealed to the public to adopt patience, tolerance and restraint during Muharram-ul-Haram and avoid differences and division.

She further said that extraordinary arrangements and comprehensive security measures were being undertaken across Punjab to ensure peace and maintain law and order during Muharram-ul-Haram.
