COLOMBO: Sri Lankan shares closed nearly unchanged on Tuesday, as gains in consumer discretionary and consumer staples stocks countered losses in utilities stocks.
The CSE All-Share index settled at 22,377.29, compared with 22,380.65 in the previous session.
Tal Lanka Hotels PLC was the top percentage gainer on the CSE All-Share index, closing 13.7 percent higher, while Swadeshi Industrial Works PLC was the top percentage loser, dropping 7.7 percent. Trading volume on the index fell to 152.6 million shares from 205.6 million in the previous session.
The equity market’s turnover fell to 3.85 billion Sri Lankan rupees (USD11.5 million) from 4 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.
Foreign investors were net buyers, purchasing stocks worth 633.8 million rupees, while domestic investors were net sellers, offloading shares worth 3.65 billion rupees, the data showed.
