LAHORE: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) held a ceremony in Garden Town here on Sunday to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, drawing senior party leaders, journalists, and workers who paid tribute to her legacy of democratic struggle and women’s political empowerment.

The event was presided over by PPP Central Information Secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan, with senior journalist and columnist Sohail Warraich attending as chief guest. PPP Lahore General Secretary Dr Ayesha Shaukat, Barrister Aamir Hassan, and Jahan Ara Watto also addressed the gathering.

Addressing the ceremony, Nadeem Afzal Chan paid rich tributes to Benazir Bhutto, saying she signed the Charter of Democracy with her chief political rival. He said she recognised that democracy’s restoration depended on rival political forces uniting.

Sohail Warraich recalled personal memories of Benazir Bhutto, including her once reciting one of her own poems to him and his having relayed a message from Nawaz Sharif that she would become the first prime minister once democracy returned.
