ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Saturday said that if he could not ensure the protection of members of the House and Assembly staff, he has no right to occupy the Speaker’s chair.
Responding to Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, he said, “The action I took against PTI MNA Iqbal Afridi is no secret. It is before you. How could an official respond when Iqbal assaulted him? How could a police officer speak up after being beaten in front of Gate No. 1 of Parliament?”
