G-B elections-related complaints to be decided tomorrow: CEC
GILGIT: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Raja Shahbaz Khan said on Saturday that under Section 89 of the Election Act, 2017, all complaints related to the general elections held for the GB Assembly on June 7 would be decided on June 15 on merit.
He said that the GB election commission started receiving complaints from different constituencies on June 8. “We have decided 10 applications so far. Lawyers of all complainants have been given a patient hearing,” he informed.
CEC GB said that the hearing of the complaint filed by Fahad Hanif would be held tomorrow on Sunday (today). He claimed that the elections held in GB were free, fair and transparent and that it was unfortunate that some people were trying to distort the facts on social media. “It is better that people refrain from making baseless allegations,” he asserted, and asked those accusing the commission of glossing over complaints of irregularities and rigging to approach legal forums for the purpose.
CEC GB said, “We fulfilled all legal and constitutional requirements,” adding that at all polling stations, each and every candidate was provided Form 45.
He, on the occasion, also thanked all political parties, lawyers and media men for facilitating peaceful holding of elections.
