President Zardari approves PIA’s privatisation bill

President Asif Ali Zardari approved on Friday the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (Conversion) (Repeal) Bill, 2026.
Following the president’s approval, the legal requirements necessary to complete the privatization process of Pakistan International Airlines Company Limited (PIACL) have been fulfilled, as per the statement.
The bill was passed by the Senate of Pakistan on June 10, and by the National Assembly of Pakistan on June 11.
Following the successful privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the Federal Government had introduced the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (Conversion) (Repeal) Bill, 2026.
The Bill seeks to repeal the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation (Conversion) Act, 2016, which had been enacted to facilitate the corporatisation and eventual privatisation of the national flag carrier.
