Agri, industry & mining sectors: CPEC-2.0 to create new JVs: PCJCCI
LAHORE: The China Pakistan Economic Corridor Phase-II (CPEC-2.0) is expected to generate significant Joint Ventures (JVs) between Pakistan and China in agriculture, industry, and mining sectors, according to the Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI).
PCJCCI Commercial Ambassador Adeel Munawar, in a statement on Wednesday, welcomed China’s commitment to upgrading the CPEC to its “2.0 version,” and expressed gratitude to Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong for reaffirming Beijing’s resolve to deepen strategic and economic cooperation with Pakistan. He assured full support from the chamber for the implementation of upcoming CPEC-2.0 projects. Munawar noted that the CPEC has already resulted in over USD25.9 billion in direct investment in Pakistan, created more than 260,000 jobs, and added over 8,000 megawatts of electricity generation capacity, while significantly improving national infrastructure.
He appreciated the acceleration of key projects, including Phase-II realignment of the Karakoram Highway, along with expansion of smaller welfare initiatives focused on education and clean water, particularly in Balochistan.
He further highlighted Pakistan’s strategic importance as the shortest trade route for China and Central Asian Republics via Gwadar Port, enhancing regional connectivity and trade integration. He also pointed to the untapped hydrocarbon potential of the Indus Delta region, terming it a major opportunity for future energy investment and security.
