Sindh Governor highlights importance of environment protection
Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi has stressed that a clean, green and safe environment is essential for ensuring a prosperous future for coming generations, urging citizens, government institutions and civil society to work together to address growing environmental challenges.
In his message on World Environment Day, the Governor said the annual observance serves as an important reminder of the collective responsibility to protect the planet and promote sustainable development.
He noted that environmental degradation and climate change have emerged as major challenges for Pakistan, posing serious threats to public health, water resources, agriculture and overall economic stability.
“Environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of the government. it is a national duty that every citizen must fulfill,” Governor Hashmi asserted.
He emphasized that practical measures at both individual and community levels are essential to mitigate the effects of climate change and preserve natural resources for future generations.
The Governor highlighted the importance of tree plantation, responsible water consumption and energy conservation as simple yet effective ways to contribute towards environmental sustainability.
He called on citizens to actively participate in afforestation efforts, describing tree plantation as a national responsibility and one of the most effective tools for combating climate change and improving air quality.
He urged every citizen to plant at least one tree and play a role in protecting the environment from pollution.
The Governor also stressed the need to discourage the unnecessary use of plastic products and promote environment friendly alternatives to reduce waste and protect ecosystems.
Addressing the youth, Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi encouraged young people to take a leading role in environmental awareness campaigns, cleanliness drives and other green initiatives. He said the younger generation possesses the energy and creativity needed to drive positive environmental change and help build a sustainable future.
The Governor further stated that efforts are underway to expand the scope of green initiatives and tree plantation campaigns across Sindh.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting policies and programs aimed at environmental conservation, ecological balance and sustainable urban development.
“Cleanliness, greenery and environmental responsibility must become part of our daily lives,” he said, adding that a clean, green and environment friendly Sindh remains the shared vision for the province’s future.
The Governor called upon all segments of society to unite in protecting the environment and ensuring that future generations inherit a healthier, safer and more sustainable world.
