LAHORE: The Punjab government has directed authorities concerned to ensure provision of safe food at controlled and notified rates at public recreational sites and parks during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays through strict inspections of canteens, cafeterias and food stalls across the province.

In a directive issued by the Punjab Food Safety and Consumer Protection Department, district administrations, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) and price control authorities have been asked to launch coordinated inspections at major picnic and recreational points where large public gatherings are expected during Eid holidays.

According to the official communication, the initiative aims to facilitate families visiting parks and tourist destinations during Eid while safeguarding public health interests by ensuring quality, hygiene, freshness and cleanliness of food being prepared and served at eateries operating inside recreational facilities.

The department has also directed officials to closely monitor food prices to prevent overcharging and ensure that official rate lists are prominently displayed for the convenience of visitors. Authorities were instructed to conduct regular inspections throughout the Eid holidays.

The notification stated that focal persons from the Forest Department, Punjab Food Authority and district administrations have been assigned duties at key recreational sites including Lal Suhanra National Park in Bahawalpur and Zoological Garden in Dera Ghazi Khan, among other public picnic spots across Punjab.
