LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that climate change and environmental degradation pose the biggest threat to the survival of the Markhor.
In her message on the International Day of the Markhor, the chief minister said the observance of the day is aimed at raising awareness about the protection of Pakistan’s national animal and the conservation of its natural habitat from the risk of extinction.
The CM said the Markhor is a symbol of Pakistan’s rich natural heritage and reflects the country’s commitment to preserving biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance.
CM Maryam Nawaz stressed that collective efforts and a shared national commitment are essential for the effective protection and conservation of the species. She further noted that the Markhor is a valuable wildlife asset that also contributes to local economic development through eco-tourism and conservation initiatives.
