PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the official list of contesting candidates for the Senate by-election on one general seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Form-54 issued under relevant election rules, five candidates including Asghar Ali son of Basheer Ahmad Khan (Pakistan Muslim League-N), Raheela Bibi wife of Saleem Ullah (Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians), Sajjad Khan Mohmand son of Sayed Ahmad (Independent), Abdul Haseeb son of Saleem Shah (Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Pakistan), and PTI-backed independent candidate Irfan Saleem son of Abdul Aziz are in run for the contest.

The seat has fallen vacant due to the disqualification of Murad Saeed, PTI-backed independent.

The parliamentary parties of the joint opposition have developed a consensus of fielding a joint candidate to give tough time to the ruling PTI. However, they have not agreed on the name of the candidate so far.

Polling on the vacant seat will be held in the provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on April 23, 2026 (Thursday), from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Election Commission has directed all concerned to ensure necessary arrangements for the smooth and transparent conduct of the by-election.
