ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday commended the Pakistan Navy for the successful rescue of 18 foreign crew members during an emergency humanitarian operation in the northern Arabian Sea.
In a statement, the prime minister praised the Navy officers and personnel for their professionalism, prompt response, and humanitarian spirit.
The rescue operation was launched after an emergency alert was received from the merchant vessel Gold Atom.
The Pakistan Navy ship PNS Hanin carried out an immediate and effective search-and-rescue mission, according to the prime minister.
The crew members, hailing from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia, were safely evacuated and transported to Karachi, where they are receiving medical attention. Arrangements are being made for their repatriation.
“The Pakistan Navy will continue to serve as a first responder in all maritime emergencies within its remit,” the PM said.
