ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) have agreed to explore the possibility of a trade agreement, subject to the outcome of a joint feasibility study.
The understanding was reached during a virtual meeting between Andrey Slepnev, Member of the Board and Minister in charge of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, Slepnev noted that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) considers Pakistan a prospective partner in the region, adding that bilateral trade is growing steadily with significant potential for further expansion.
Jam Kamal said Pakistan views enhanced engagement with the EAEU not only as a trade opportunity but also as a strategic partnership encompassing logistics, energy cooperation, digital trade, industrial collaboration, and supply chain integration.
He further stated that Pakistan supports initiating a structured dialogue with the Commission to explore a trade agreement, contingent upon the results of the joint feasibility study.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to working closely in a constructive and forward-looking manner to unlock the full potential of trade and investment cooperation. To assess the economic implications and feasibility of a preferential trade arrangement, the two sides agreed to establish a Joint Feasibility Study Group in accordance with their respective legal frameworks.
