PARIS: European Union soft wheat exports since the start of the 2025/26 season in July had reached 18.00 million metric tons by April 5, compared with 17.14 million tons a week earlier and up 7percent year on year, European Commission data showed on Tuesday.

A breakdown of this season’s volumes showed Romania remained the largest EU soft wheat exporter at 5.97 million tons, followed by France (4.76 million), Poland (2.28 million), Lithuania (1.81 million) and Germany (1.41 million).

EU barley exports totalled 7.65 million tons, compared with 6.88 million tons a week earlier and up 89percent from the corresponding period of 2024/25.

However, the Commission said export data for France has been incomplete since the start of 2024, for Bulgaria and Ireland since the start of the 2023/24 marketing year and for Greece since January 2026.

Anomalously high Romanian durum wheat export figures for 2025/26 may be linked to a reporting error for which corrective steps have been taken, the EU’s executive arm added.
