ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan must increase its exports by USD 5 billion every year to move away from relying on external support.

The Minister expressed these views while chairing a high-level meeting on economic governance on Monday.

He emphasised that the government’s top priority is to make the system simple, transparent, and business-friendly.

He said that the tax regime must be made more attractive to encourage large-scale investment, adding that reforms are underway to boost the country’s export capacity. He also recommended tax incentives for companies, which have the potential to contribute to increasing the volume of exports.

Calling the hike in exports a “national emergency,” Ahsan Iqbal stressed that Pakistan must increase exports by USD 5 billion annually to reduce its reliance on external support.

Highlighting Pakistan’s strategic geographic location as a major asset, he said that, given the evolving global situation, Islamabad has the potential to emerge as a safe and attractive hub for investment. He urged authorities to make the capital a top destination for investors.
