ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended their facilitations to the Christian community within the country and across the globe on the occasion of Easter on Sunday.
“This day symbolises compassion, hope, renewal, rebirth and the triumph of good over evil,” the president said in his message on Easter.
He praised the role of Christian community across Pakistan, saying their contributions are “integral to our society and deserve recognition and respect.”
“Pakistani Christians are respected for their contribution to the motherland. We still remember the historic role played by S P Singha, the Christian Speaker of Punjab Assembly, in the creation of Pakistan. Every Pakistani remembers the heroic role of Cecil Chaudhry during the 1965 war,” the president said in a statement.
“On this occasion, I encourage all citizens to act with restraint, respect and a sense of responsibility towards one another. A stable and strong society depends on how we treat each other in daily life, in our workplaces, in our neighbourhoods and in our institutions,” President Zardari added.
In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “On the blessed occasion of Easter, I extend heartfelt greetings to our Christian brothers and sisters in Pakistan and around the world. The sacred teachings of Hazrat Isa (AS) continue to inspire millions, reminding us to build a society free from evil and to show compassion towards the poor and the downtrodden.”
He added, “We deeply value and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the Christian community in all spheres of life, particularly in education, healthcare, social welfare, and public service. As we celebrate this day, let us reaffirm our resolve to promote tolerance, mutual respect, and interfaith harmony, and work together for the peace and prosperity of our beloved country. I wish the Christian community a blessed, peaceful, and joyous Easter.”
