Islamabad: police data shows criminal activity continuing without pausing
ISLAMABAD: The heavily guarded federal capital witnessed a surge in heinous crimes over the past week, with three murder cases, including the killing of a prominent businessman, registered at various police stations.
According to data gathered by Business Recorder through registered First Information Reports (FIRs), three murders were reported, including the killing of businessman Amir Awan during an attempt of dacoity that took place inside his bedroom at his farmhouse guarded by his own private security.
Robbers also murdered a man and injured three others in separate incidents, besides looting cash and valuables worth over four million rupees in the capital during the last week.
In addition to the murder cases, 31 incidents of auto theft were reported, including the theft of four cars and 27 motorcycles.
The city also saw three cases of street crime involving armed mobile phone snatching and cash theft, as well as eight robberies in which citizens were deprived of their valuables. Several police jurisdictions emerged as hotspots of criminal activity, including Karachi Company, Kohsar, Industrial Area, and Secretariat police stations.
One of the most shocking incidents was the killing of businessman Amir Awan at his farmhouse located in Orchard Scheme during a dacoity on March 30. According to police, five suspects broke into the farmhouse and shot the businessman dead within the limits of Shehzad Town Police Station.
City police, after 24 hours, claimed to have arrested the five suspects allegedly involved in Awan’s murder. Police said the suspects were arrested from Charsadda and Mardan and belonged to a gang commonly known as the Mansoor Khan ‘Bulletproof Jacket’ gang.
During another incident, a gang of robbers murdered Mohammad Asif and injured his cousin Mohammad Haroon in Tarnol. The incident took place when the two cousins were returning home on a motorcycle after attending the wedding ceremony of Asif’s sister.
In another incident, robbers armed with weapons intercepted two siblings. The robbers asked them at gunpoint to hand over cash and valuables. When they refused, the gunmen shot them and escaped. As a result, both received bullet injuries and were later shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Furthermore, three robbers looted cash and mobile phones from a man on the Expressway near Dhoke Kala Khan. Samiullah told police that the robbers snatched Rs 6,000 in cash and two mobile phones from him before escaping.
During the same period, Karachi Company Police Station registered five cases of motor vehicle theft and one case of street crime. Industrial Area Police Station reported three cases of auto theft and two cases of robbery, while another five cases of auto theft were reported at Kohsar Police Station.
