Nihal meets GB governor

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi had a meeting with Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah, here at the Governor House on Saturday, where they discussed a wide range of issues of national importance with a focus on tourism, energy cooperation and inter-provincial coordination.

Syed Mehdi Shah congratulated Nihal Hashmi on assuming office as the Governor of Sindh.

Discussions centred on unlocking tourism potential in Gilgit-Baltistan, with both sides agreeing to promote investment opportunities and pursue coordinated initiatives to strengthen the sector.

The two leaders also reviewed avenues for enhanced cooperation in the energy sector, including prospects for new projects, and underscored the need for closer coordination to meet rising energy demands.

The overall law and order situation, and steps to further improve security were also discussed, with both Governors stressing that durable peace is critical for sustained economic growth and tourism development.

Speaking on the occasion, Nihal Hashmi said Gilgit-Baltistan is a key tourism hub, attracting a large number of domestic and international visitors and presenting a positive image of Pakistan to the world.

He said the development of tourist destinations would help strengthen the economy and generate employment opportunities.

Syed Mehdi Shah highlighted the need for a coordinated and comprehensive strategy to showcase the region’s natural beauty globally, adding that lasting peace and effective security measures are essential to unlocking the sector’s full potential.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation, strengthening institutional linkages and ensuring a safe, secure and enabling environment for tourists and investors alike.
