KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, on Sunday, visited the ongoing water supply work on the Lyari River.
Karachi Water Corporation is laying open and above-ground pipelines to prevent water theft and ensure transparent supply.
The Mayor said that 10 MGD water will be supplied to the last part of Lyari through 33-inch diameter pipelines. The biggest problem in Karachi is water, and efforts are being made to solve it in a better way and provide water to the citizens.
In the past, underground pipeline installations led to an increase in water theft, which is why pipelines are now being laid above and on open ground so that effective monitoring of supply is possible.
The Mayor instructed the Water Corporation officials to complete the work before June 30 for the relief of the people of Lyari.
Now, not only are new lines being laid for water supply, but work is also being done rapidly on strict punishments against water thieves, said the Mayor.
