LAHORE: National Selection Committee members met with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi here on Saturday, to discuss issues concerning national team.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi advised the selection committee members, to take decisions concerning team selection independently on merit, sources said.
Naqvi advised them to perform their duties honestly without any pressure and don’t care about anyone’s criticism for criticism and my full support is with you, the sources said.
Members selection committee of PCB Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfraz Ahmed, Asad Shafiq and Aqib Javed expressed gratitude to the PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for expressing their full confidence.
Moreover, member Selection Committee of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Aqib Javed admitted that the results of the World Cup were not good and everyone had taken decisions together regarding the selection of the team. Talking to media, Aqib Javed said that which player will play which match in the World Cup; the decision was made by the coach and captain. “Our job was to select the players while the decision of the playing XI was made by the coach and captain,” he said, adding: “Future decisions will be made in consultation with the coach.” He said the results of the World Cup were not good. “We were expecting the team will definitely qualify for semi-final but unfortunately the team disappointed all,” he said, adding: “Various things were said about not performing well in the World Cup but despite criticism, we cannot abandon our work.”
Talking on the occasion, former captain Sarfaraz Ahmad said we have two or three wicketkeeper options available and we will give new players a chance next season. He said players are made part of the squad based on performance. Misbah-ul-Haq said players are selected based on performance in domestic cricket.
