KARACHI: Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor has demanded from the government of Pakistan not to become a party in the Middle East conflict and instead adopt a cautious and balanced approach.
He said after tensions at our borders with India and Afghanistan we can ill afford tension also at our border with Iran. Iran is our neighbouring brotherly country and Arab nations are also very close to our heart; therefore, Pakistan must walk a fine line while tackling the Middle East tension, said Altaf Shakoor here Thursday.
He said the recent Bahrain-led resolution in the United Nations Security Council condemned Iran’s missile attacks on the Gulf countries, but the joint attack on Iran by the USA and Israel were shamefully ignored which is a sheer injustice.
He reminded them that they were the USA and Israel who attacked Iran while talks were under way. He said this is the worst example of violation of international laws and diplomatic norms. He said Pakistan was a co-sponsor and also voted in favour of the resolution against Iran. He said it is understood that we have some pacts with the Arab nations especially Saudi Arabia, but at the same time Iran is our neighbour and brother and our policymakers should have found a middle path. He said we should not anger one brother to please another brother. We should adopt a cautious and balanced policy.
He regretted that the same UN Security Council failed to adopt a draft resolution mourning the “tragic loss of life throughout the ongoing hostilities” in the Middle East. The draft resolution, penned by Russia, received four votes in favour by Russia, China, Somalia and Pakistan.
Altaf Shakoor said it is a bitter fact that the United Nations has become a dirty tool in the hands of the USA and its allies. It has already lost its moral right to exist. He said today the world is hijacked by the global hegemony of Americans.
