ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy has launched a new maritime security operation, “Muhafiz-ul-Bahr,” aimed at protecting Pakistan’s sea trade routes and energy lifelines amid the evolving regional security environment.
According to a press release issued by the Directorate General Public Relations (Pakistan Navy) on Monday, the operation has been initiated to counter multidimensional threats to national shipping and ensure the uninterrupted flow of maritime trade and energy supplies.
The Navy said that escort operations are currently under way in coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) to safeguard merchant vessels transiting through critical Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs).

At present, Pakistan Navy ships are escorting two merchant vessels, one of which is expected to arrive in Karachi later today. Officials noted that nearly 90 percent of Pakistan’s trade moves through sea routes, making maritime security a critical national priority.
The Pakistan Navy stated it is closely monitoring the prevailing maritime situation and controlling the movement of merchant vessels to ensure their safe passage.
The Navy reiterated that it remains fully prepared to respond to emerging maritime security challenges and is committed to safeguarding national shipping as well as maintaining stability in regional waters.
